Safara is a Black trans-woman and a national transgender legal advocate and policy specialist. She’s a first-generation, Sophomore student at Harvard studying Gender Studies and Government. She has been featured in publications such as Teen Vogue and the Associated Press, has spoken at national transgender justice events, and has won several awards for her advocacy. Safara is a policy intern at Transgender Education Network Texas, the Co-Director of TransHarvard, and a board member of the Gender-Sexuality Alliance (GSA) Network. Her work has led her to testify at the Texas Capital, as well as advocating for expansive, trans-affirming ID reform on the federal level, during her time as the Trans Justice Intern at the ACLU.
“It’s so Texan to just take up space and really just be who we are…and it’s also such a large value in being queer, right, is taking up space. And it’s so funny that there are so many legislators in Texas who don’t see that similarity.”
